Getting a degree in archaeology from Simon Fraser University has certainly helped with regards to my current job as
Curatorial Intern at Barkerville Historic Town. My main duties as the intern include cataloguing a collection of artefacts
from the late 1800's until approximately the 1960's. My degree has given me the knowledge not only to try and piece
together the peoples' lives from the artefacts, but also how to care for the artefacts so that they may be preserved
for future study and display. Without the education that I have received, trying to analyze the artefacts would be
like trying to read a book in another language that I do not understand. A degree in archaeology allows me to
better understand the past, and this allows me to help others understand the past better as well.
