As a way to announce the call for interplay_2023 (which launches March 1), SCA alumnus Deanna Peters has shared "a 1-min recap of #interplay_2022, a "festival of live online performance" she produces and co-curates, featuring live online artworx by [SCA alumnus] Luciana Freire D'Anunciação + Brandon Schwinn, [SCA alumnus] Ghinwa Yassine, Ivetta Sun Young Kang, Shereen Ramprashad + Derek Brueckner." Kanagawa's Forgiveness news

Great behind-the-scenes content from SCA alumnus Hiro Kanagawa on his Facebook page about his adaptation of Mark Sakamoto's memoir Forgiveness, featuring SCA alumni June Fukumura in the cast, Cindy Mochizuki as Video Designer & Animation, Howard Dai as Assistant Director, and Sammy Chien and Chimerik 似不像 as co-Video Systems Designer. Forgiveness is having its World Premiere from January 12 – February 12, 2023, at the Arts Club Theatre Company's Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage (2750 Granville Street, Vancouver), a joint production with Theatre Calgary, who will be presenting the show from March 7 – April 1, 2023. If you'd like to hear more about the production, the Arts Club is holding a Sunday Salon with Kanagawa at 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 22, 2023, before the 2:00 PM show. In "hot off the press" news, Kanagawa's theatrical adaptation has been published by Playwrights Canada Press, featuring illustrations by Mochizuki. Playback Head live (on video) and live

SCA alumnus Alexandre Klinke has shared the video archive of his September 2022 performance as Playback Head at the Red Gate Revue Stage at Granville Island. Watch it HERE. Also, catch Klinke live at the two day Hotham Sound event, Drop Cities, running February 18 & 19, 2023, at Red Gate Arts Society (1965 Main St., Vancouver). Altogether, the bill includes Sinoia Caves, Hudson Glover, MIDI Janitor, Meredith Bates, CORBEN, Playback Head, and C. Diab on February 18, and Souns, Pacific Coliseum, Alexi Baris, KR75, Luke Requena, Waters, and Karl Fousek on February 19.

Gray's The Maker's Mark's works

SCA alumnus Jesse Gray is posting images on her Instagram of work she's selling that she produced for the Burrard Arts Foundation group exhibition, The Maker's Mark, which ran November 10 – December 17, 2022. Check it out HERE.

Theatre Conspiracy's Same Difference

With SCA alumnus David Mesiha (Concept, Projection Design, Sound Design & Composition, Text), Milton Lim (Projection Co-Design, Co-Development), and Aryo Khakpour (Dramaturgy, Performance and Co-Development), Theatre Conspiracy's Same Difference, "an immersive mixed-media installation and digital performance examining themes of identity and belonging," is running February 15 – 25, 2023, at Toronto's Franco Boni Theatre (1115 Queen St. W, Toronto), presented by The Theatre Centre. Featuring SCA alumni Sophie Tang (Lighting Designer) and Scott Morgan / Loscil (Composer & Sound Designer) and current SCA students Jack Chipman (Media Integration) and Ruby Henderson (Performer), Electric Company Theatre's An Undeveloped Sound has previews on January 30 & 31 at 7:30 PM, its World Premiere on February 1 7:30 PM, and performances on February 2 – 4 & February 7 – 11, 2023, at 7:30 PM, co-presented with SFU Woodward's Cultural Programs & the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival. TRAction's CLIMATE ART WEB

SCA MFA student Kevin Jesuino asked us to share about an upcoming event organized by TRAction, the interdisciplinary collective Jesuino organizes and facilitates with Melanie Kloetzel: "TRAction is proud to host our second gathering of the CLIMATE ART WEB this February 5, 2023, at 1pm PT/4 pm ET. At this gathering, we will showcase two artists featured on the www.caw-wac.com site and also give you a chance to connect with other artists who are concerned with and committed to addressing climate change. The CLIMATE ART WEB (CAW-WAC) is a place of exchange for artists living in northern Turtle Island (Canada) who are concerned with and committed to addressing climate issues. A grassroots network, CAW-WAC supports the sharing of resources, knowledge, and best practices within and beyond the climate art community. CAW-WAC is an initiative of TRAction. RSVP HERE.

The Land is Home

The next exhibition in the The Land is Home project by SCA alumnus Jessica McMann, who's also the Curator of Indigenous Art for the City of Calgary, opens February 4, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary Nature Centre, featuring family-friendly "storytelling, activities, dancing, music and art." UNSCRIPTED: It Lives in My Bedroom

Chimerik 似不像, the Lighting, Projection Design & New Media Art Collective co-founded by SCA alumnus Sammy Chien & Shang-Han Chien, are collaborating with playwright, director, and researcher Mily Mumford on UNSCRIPTED: It Lives in My Bedroom, an "“art-house horror” immersive theatre experience," on Friday, February 17, 2023, at 7:30 PM at Progress Lab 1422, presented by Playwrights Theatre Centre (PTC). Indigenous Knowledge, Law & Sound

SCA alumnus Dylan Robinson, who's a Professor in the UBC School of Music, and Julen Etxabe, a Professor in UBC's Allard School of Law, have co-organized a "Spring thematic event series on Indigenous Knowledge, Law & Sound," with the first event on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, from 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM, focusing on chapter 2 of Robinson's excellent 2020 book, Hungry Listening: Resonant Theory for Indigenous Sound Studies, which examines the idea of "Reparative Interpellation." THEATRE CORPS., the "contemporary design theatre" group that includes SCA alumnus Alexa Fraser, is hosting the next round of What Lab's Exquisite Pressure performance residency and public showcase, helping mentor selected artists, companies, or collectives for the duration of the residency.
