Fall 2009 – Representations of Gender
Representations of gender in news media have been the focus of numbers of research studies over the last three decades. Both quantitative and qualitative research has suggested that the issue of media accountability and representation is a key factor in the advancement of gender equality. This media monitoring seminar began from the perspective that gender equality is one of the requirements for democratic communications, and news representations of gender both reflect and constructgender roles across the world, as well as hold the possibility for change. Research from this seminar contributed to the following reports:
Global Media Monitoring Project – Canada Report (2010)
