New self-service delivery lockers arrive in Surrey
Mailroom services at SFU’s Surrey campus are getting an upgrade thanks to a new partnership between Facilities Services at Surrey, BlueMyth and Blackwood Partners.
The Surrey campus is piloting an alternate delivery solution by installing self-service delivery lockers called BlueBox. BlueBox allow couriers to deliver packages outside of mailroom hours or on occasions when the mailroom clerk is unavailable.
Mike Devolin, associate director of Facilities Services at the Surrey campus, says that as mailroom needs change, the Facilities team continues to seek new strategies that align with immediate and long-term goals. Working with BlueMyth to implement BlueBox is an example of this. “Exceeding the increasing demands on campus have been at the core of our change management initiatives,” says Devolin. “BlueMyth has been a great fit and they have provided an exceptional customer service experience.”
Among the many highlights the BlueBox brings, the Facilities Services team notes their ease of use. “The touchscreen controls are responsive and user-friendly, making it easy to navigate for couriers and first-time users,” says Nathan Wong, who works in the Surrey mailroom. “The BlueManager [the online portal for BlueBox] is an incredible tool with a simple interface, including customizable locker settings, making it effortless for anyone to learn and use.”
Bringing BlueBox to the Surrey campus was certainly a team effort: Devolin notes the strong, continued partnership with Blackwood Partners who have provided dedicated space for BlueBox in the loading dock. Additionally, the Surrey Facilities team worked with two SFU alumni, Akari Numajiri and Leon Lee, to get this innovative project off the ground.
As this project moves forward on the Surrey campus, Devolin is excited to see how other campuses may benefit from BlueBox and how this could be implemented at the Burnaby and Vancouver campuses.
